AI labels on ad images
Every image that Create images makes has two marks that say AI made it: an invisible watermark and content credentials. Hero Marketer does not remove these marks. LinkedIn, Meta, and Google can show an AI label with your ad.
| Platform | What the platform can show |
|---|---|
| A content credentials icon on a single-image ad | |
| Meta | AI info in the menu of the ad |
| An AI label in the About this ad panel. In the European Union, India, and New York, also a label on the ad itself. |
This article tells you what the platforms show. It is not legal advice. For the rules that apply to your ads, read the advertising policies of each platform.
How an ad image shows that AI made it
Each image from Create images has two marks:
- SynthID. This is Google's invisible watermark. You cannot see it in the image.
- Content credentials. This is signed data in the image file, in the C2PA standard. The data says that AI made the image.
The images of a batch have both marks. Each new version and each new aspect ratio of an image also has both marks.
Images that you upload on the Images tab of a Performance Max or Demand Gen campaign are your own files. Hero Marketer does not add a watermark or content credentials to them.
Content credentials in your download
Hero Marketer keeps each image file as the AI model made it. When you click Download, you get that file. So the image that you download keeps its content credentials.
The image window on the Create images page says: Every image carries an invisible watermark and content credentials that say it was made with AI. Its Learn more link opens this article.
A change to an image also keeps the content credentials. Hero Marketer never edits an image file itself. The AI model makes each new version and each new aspect ratio. See Change an ad image.
When an edit removes the content credentials
If you edit the image in a tool that does not support content credentials, the tool removes them. The invisible watermark stays in the image. Google designed SynthID to stay in an image after common changes, for example a crop, a resize, or a screenshot.
Hero Marketer has no setting that removes the watermark or the content credentials.
Images that a campaign sends to Google Ads
A Performance Max or Demand Gen campaign from the campaign wizard sends Google a resized JPEG copy of each image that you select. The copy can lose the content credentials. Your download and the image on the Create images page do not change.
AI label on a LinkedIn ad
LinkedIn shows a content credentials icon on a single-image ad.
AI label on a Meta ad (Facebook and Instagram)
Meta can show AI info in the menu of the ad.
AI label on a Google ad
When Google labels an ad as made with AI, it shows the label in the About this ad panel of the ad. In the European Union, India, and New York, Google also shows the label on the ad itself.
Google adds the label by itself to images that its own tools make. For images from other tools, such as Hero Marketer, the label comes from the advertiser's declaration in Google Ads. Hero Marketer cannot declare it for you. Read Google's own help for the place where you declare AI content.
The AI label note on the Images tab of a campaign
The Images tab of a Performance Max or Demand Gen campaign can show a note about Google's AI label. The note shows when the country of the campaign is one of these:
- A country in the European Union.
- India.
- The United States. A campaign in the United States also reaches New York.
For a campaign in Germany, for example, the note is: Google may label images from Hero Marketer as made with AI. In the EU, the label shows on the ad itself. For India, the note names India. For the United States, the note names New York. See Create a Performance Max campaign and Create a Demand Gen campaign.
