Connect LinkedIn Ads

To connect LinkedIn Ads, click Connect LinkedIn Ads on the Pick an ad platform step. This step is the first onboarding step, and it is also the first step of Add account. Hero Marketer needs read access to your LinkedIn ad accounts and their reports. Connecting is free, and no card is needed.

Hero Marketer reads LinkedIn accounts. It does not change them. See What works on LinkedIn Ads.

How the LinkedIn connection works​

  1. Click Connect LinkedIn Ads. LinkedIn's sign-in screen opens in the same tab.
  2. Sign in as the LinkedIn member who has a role on your ad account. This member can be different from the account that you signed up with.
  3. Allow the requested access (see below).
  4. LinkedIn sends you back to Hero Marketer, which loads the active ad accounts that this member can reach.
  5. If the member has exactly one ad account, Hero Marketer picks it automatically.
  6. If the member has several, pick one. Then click Scan this account. You can connect more accounts later.

No LinkedIn ad accounts in the list​

When Hero Marketer finds no ad accounts, you see We couldn't find any LinkedIn ad accounts. The LinkedIn member that you signed in with has no role on an active ad account.

Do one of these:

  • Click Reconnect LinkedIn Ads and sign in as a different member.
  • Ask an admin of the ad account to add you in Campaign Manager. Any account role works, because Hero Marketer only reads the account.

A closed ad account does not appear in the list. Only active accounts appear.

The free scan of a LinkedIn account​

Right after you connect, Hero Marketer runs its alert checks on the account once while you watch. It reads the last 35 days and checks spend, conversions, click-through rate, cost per click and delivery. The scan usually takes under a minute.

The scan is free once for each ad account that you connect. It changes nothing in the account. See What works on LinkedIn Ads for the list of checks.

Scopes we request from LinkedIn​

Connect LinkedIn Ads asks LinkedIn for two permissions:

  • r_ads: read your ad accounts, campaigns and ads.
  • r_ads_reporting: read their performance reports.

Hero Marketer does not ask for permission to change your campaigns. It does not read the profiles of members who see your ads. Job function, seniority and company size reach Hero Marketer only as totals from LinkedIn.

LinkedIn asks you to sign in again once a year​

LinkedIn ends each connection after one year. When this happens, you get the Reconnect LinkedIn Ads alert, and daily checks stop for that account. To fix this, open Settings > Connections and click Reconnect on the account. The account keeps its products, alerts, dashboards and chats.
