Connect Meta Ads
To connect Meta Ads, click Connect Meta Ads on the Pick an ad platform step. This step is the first onboarding step, and it is also a step of Add ad account and Add business. Hero Marketer needs read access to your Meta ad account and its reports. Connecting is free, and no card is needed.
Hero Marketer reads Meta ad accounts. It does not change them. See What works on Meta Ads.
How the Meta connection works
- Click Connect Meta Ads. Meta's sign-in screen opens in the same tab.
- Sign in with the Facebook account that manages your ad account. This account can be different from the account that you signed up with.
- On Meta's screens, pick your business portfolio. Then pick the ad account that you run ads from.
- Allow the requested access (see below).
- Meta sends you back to Hero Marketer, which loads the ad accounts that you picked.
- If you picked exactly one ad account, Hero Marketer picks it automatically.
- If you picked several, pick one. Then click Scan this account. You can connect more accounts later.
The free scan starts next.
A business portfolio is Meta's name for the place that holds your ad accounts. It is not the same as a business in Hero Marketer. See Businesses, accounts and products.
No Meta ad accounts in the list
When Hero Marketer finds no ad accounts, you see We couldn't find any Meta ad accounts. Meta's screens did not share an active ad account with Hero Marketer.
Do one of these:
- Click Reconnect Meta Ads, and pick your ad account on Meta's screens.
- Ask an admin of the business portfolio to give you access to the ad account.
A disabled or closed ad account does not appear in the list.
The free scan of a Meta account
Right after you connect, Hero Marketer runs its alert checks on the account once while you watch. It reads the last 35 days and checks spend, conversions, click-through rate, cost per click and delivery. The scan usually takes under a minute.
The scan is free once for each ad account that you connect. It changes nothing in the account. See What works on Meta Ads for the list of checks.
Permission we request from Meta
Connect Meta Ads asks Meta for one permission:
ads_read: read your ad accounts, campaigns, ad sets, ads and their performance reports.
Hero Marketer does not ask for permission to change your campaigns. It does not read the profiles of people who see your ads. Age, gender and placement reach Hero Marketer only as totals from Meta.
When the connection stops working
The connection stops when someone removes Hero Marketer in Meta's business settings, or when the ad account is no longer shared. You then get the Reconnect Meta Ads alert, and daily checks stop for that account. To fix this, open Settings > Connections and click Reconnect on the account. The account keeps its products, alerts, dashboards and chats.
