Create your first campaign
A campaign in Hero Marketer is built in three steps: targeting, keywords, and ad copy. The wizard takes about ten minutes the first time, less once you know it. Each campaign costs 1 credit to generate.
Before you start
You'll need:
- A connected Google Ads account.
- A product set up with a description and website. If you haven't done this yet, see Describe your product.
- An idea of where you want ads to run (one or more countries or regions).
- One or two seed keywords that describe what your customers might search for.
Step 1: Set up your campaign
Pick the basics:
- Product. The product these ads will promote. Choose from the products on the active account.
- Region. Where ads should run. You can pick countries or sub regions. For your first campaign, start narrow. One country is plenty.
- Seed keywords. One to three short phrases that describe what your customers might type into Google when looking for what you sell. Think the words a customer would use, not the words you'd use internally. "Project management tool" and "alternative to jira" are fine seeds.
- Landing page URL. Where clicks should send traffic. This can be your homepage or a more specific page.
Click Continue to move to keywords.
Step 2: Choose keywords
Hero Marketer takes your seed keywords and your product analysis, queries Google's keyword data, and groups the results into clusters. Each cluster is a tight group of keywords that share the same intent.
You'll see the clusters listed with metrics:
- Search volume. Roughly how many searches per month for the keywords in the cluster.
- Cost per click range. What advertisers typically pay for clicks on these terms.
- Competition. How many other advertisers bid on similar terms.
Pick the cluster that best matches the customer you want to reach. You can move keywords between clusters or remove ones that don't fit. See Choose keyword clusters for how to read the cluster output.
Set your monthly budget. Hero Marketer suggests one based on the keywords and competition you're targeting, but you can override it. See Set your budget for how the suggestion is calculated.
Click Continue.
Step 3: Generate ad copy
Hero Marketer drafts a set of ad variations using your product analysis and the keywords you picked. Each variation has multiple headlines and descriptions.
Review them. You can:
- Edit any headline or description in place.
- Reorder them, since Google rotates through your headlines and picks the best performers.
- Regenerate if the first set isn't right. Regenerating costs another credit.
Sitelinks (the small links that appear under your main ad) are also drafted. You can keep them, edit them, or pick from the asset library if you have existing ones in the account. See Add sitelinks.
Click Create campaign when you're happy.
What happens next
When you click create, Hero Marketer:
- Charges 1 credit from your balance.
- Creates the campaign in Google Ads with all the keywords, ad copy, and extensions.
- Pauses the campaign for Google's review.
- Routes you to a confirmation screen.
Google reviews the campaign and approves it before ads start running. See What happens after you launch for what to expect.
Saving and resuming
You can leave the wizard at any step. Hero Marketer saves your progress, so when you come back the wizard picks up where you left off. Saved campaign drafts expire after 30 days.
