Hero AI troubleshooting

Fixes for the most common Hero AI problems. Find your symptom below. Most are a phrasing, account-state, or Google-data issue you can resolve yourself.

The answer is vague or doesn't fit

Most often the question was too broad, vague questions get vague answers. See Ask Hero AI for recommendations for how to phrase a sharper one. A few specific patterns:

  • It summarizes when you wanted a recommendation. Ask explicitly: "What should I do?" or "What's the most impactful change I could make?"
  • It hedges with "it depends." Hero AI hedges when you haven't given it constraints. State your goal: "I'm trying to keep CPA under $200" or "I need to scale clicks 50 percent without raising CPA."
  • It covers everything when you wanted one campaign. Name the campaign or topic explicitly.

"Not enough data yet"

When Hero AI says it doesn't have enough data, the campaign is usually too new or too low-volume for a reliable answer:

  • Under 7 days old. Wait. Google's algorithm and Hero AI both need a baseline.
  • Under 100 clicks total. Recommendations on small samples are noisy. Wait for more volume, or raise the budget.
  • Zero conversions in the window. Hero AI can analyze efficiency metrics (CTR, CPC) but can't recommend on conversion-driven goals without conversion data.

If volume is the issue, see Set your budget for how to scale appropriately.

Hero AI is referencing the wrong campaigns or numbers

A few common causes:

  • The wrong account is active. Check the account switcher at the top of the sidebar. Hero AI works against your active Google Ads account, not all of your accounts.
  • A date-range mismatch with the reporting pages. The dashboard and All campaigns share their date range and filters, but Hero AI works from whatever you ask it to inspect. Tell it explicitly: "Look at the last 30 days" or "Only look at enabled Search campaigns."
  • Conversation drift. A long conversation can carry stale assumptions. Start a new conversation if the numbers stop matching reality.

The conversation feels stuck or repetitive

Long conversations sometimes drift. Hero AI may keep returning to the same recommendation or get less specific as the thread grows.

Start a new conversation. Carry over the relevant context (the goal, the campaign, the time frame) but drop the back-and-forth. The first response in a fresh conversation is usually sharper.

"Rate limit hit" or "try again later"

Hero AI runs on upstream AI services that can rate-limit heavy usage. When you hit a limit:

  • Wait a minute or two, then try again. Most rate limits clear on their own.
  • Don't resend the same question in a tight loop. Each retry counts against the limit and slows the recovery.

"+ New chat" is disabled

You've reached the limit of 10 chats for this Google Ads account. Hero AI keeps up to 10 saved chats per account; once you hit that, new chats are blocked until you free a slot.

To unblock: hover any chat in the sidebar, click the ⋯ menu, and choose Delete. Then start a new chat from the sidebar's + New chat or from the New chat button above the input. See Manage your chats.

You can't switch Google Ads accounts

The account switcher locks while a chat is generating a response. The lock is intentional, switching during generation would orphan the active response.

To unblock: wait for the response to finish (the chat with the active spinner in the sidebar is the one that's streaming), or stop the response from the chat input.

Your chat list is empty after switching accounts

Each Google Ads account keeps its own chat list, so switching accounts in the account switcher shows that account's chats. The chats from your previous account aren't gone, they're still saved on it.

If you've never used Hero AI on the account you just activated, the list is genuinely empty. Start a new chat to begin.

Your active response disappeared after a refresh

Only completed turns are saved. If you refresh while Hero AI is responding, the in-progress assistant message is dropped. Your prior history stays intact, but the abandoned response won't reappear.

Ask the question again if you need that response. Long investigations can take 30 to 60 seconds, don't refresh during that window unless you mean to abandon the run.

A Performance Max report looks limited

Performance Max reports have data limits that Google imposes, not Hero AI:

  • Placement reports show impressions only. Clicks, cost, and conversions aren't available per Performance Max placement, and Hero AI won't fabricate them. Use campaign or asset group reports for spend or conversion comparisons.
  • Search insights are grouped by category. Google buckets sparse and private terms under "Uncategorized / Other search terms" for privacy. That's a real category, not missing data.
  • Asset groups replace ad groups. Asking for "ad groups" or "keywords" in a Performance Max campaign returns nothing. Ask about asset groups, placements, or search categories instead.

A landing page report shows duplicate URLs

Most duplicate rows are tracking variants, UTM parameters, ValueTrack parameters, and click IDs can make one page look like many URLs. Ask Hero AI:

Group these by real destination page and explain the tracking variants separately.

For details, see Read landing page reports.

A click-diagnostics request fails or returns little data

Click diagnostics are intentionally narrow, they work best when you name one exact day and a specific campaign or ad group. If a request is too broad, ask again with a date:

Check click quality for Campaign X on May 12, 2026.

Google Ads limits this kind of click data to recent history. Hero AI summarizes aggregates first and avoids dumping raw click IDs unless you explicitly need them for lead matching.

The Copy wireframe button is missing, or the wireframe won't paste right

  • No Copy wireframe button. Hero AI didn't detect the wireframe markers in its output. Ask it to regenerate the wireframe.
  • Pasting into Google Docs loses the table formatting. Use the Copy wireframe button rather than your browser's copy. The button preserves table borders, merged cells, and rich formatting; browser copy doesn't.
  • The Download dropdown's PDF option fails. The PDF is generated server-side and can take a few seconds. Check your connection and try again. The Markdown option runs in your browser and shouldn't fail unless your browser blocks downloads.
  • Hero AI couldn't crawl your landing page (firewall, authentication, redirect, or the page is down). It still drafts a wireframe from your product context, keyword themes, and ad copy, and notes the fetch failure inline.

See Landing page redesign for how the wireframe works.

"Out of credits" mid-conversation

Each exchange uses credits from your monthly balance. If the balance runs out mid-conversation, Hero AI pauses and prompts you to top up:

  • Top up and continue. Buying credits returns the conversation immediately. Buy from the credit balance widget at the bottom of the sidebar, or from Account → Plan.
  • Upgrade. If you hit the limit regularly, a higher plan with more included credits may be cheaper than ad-hoc top-ups. See Compare plans.

For what consumes credits, see How credits work.

The response stopped streaming

Sometimes a response cuts off mid-sentence, usually a transient connection or upstream AI hiccup. Refresh and ask again.

Hero AI is wrong sometimes. See Understand its recommendations for how to read its output critically.

When you spot a confidently wrong answer, push back: "Are you sure? Show me the underlying data." Hero AI usually corrects itself when given specific pushback, or surfaces the assumption that led it astray.

When the dashboard or Google Ads is faster than chat

For some questions, a lookup is quicker than asking Hero AI:

  • Current spend this month. The dashboard.
  • What each campaign cost yesterday. The dashboard.
  • What search terms triggered your ads. The Google Ads search terms report.
  • Performance for each keyword. The Google Ads keywords tab.

Use Hero AI for analysis and recommendations, not raw lookup.

When a problem persists

If Hero AI keeps failing to respond, hits rate limits that block your work, or stops streaming on every attempt after you've refreshed and retried, that points to an upstream service problem rather than something you can fix from your end. Contact support so we can check it.
