I cannot connect LinkedIn Ads
The LinkedIn Ads connection fails, finishes without the ad account that you expected, or stops working later. Most often, you signed in as a LinkedIn member who has no role on the ad account. Find the message that you see. The sections go from the most common cause to the least common.
To open Settings, click your profile picture at the bottom of the sidebar, then click Settings. Connected accounts are on Settings > Ad accounts.
"We couldn't find any LinkedIn ad accounts"
You signed in to LinkedIn, but the member that you signed in as has no role on an active ad account. A LinkedIn profile does not give access to an ad account. A role on the ad account gives access.
Do one of these:
- Click Reconnect LinkedIn Ads and sign in as the member who has a role on the ad account.
- Ask an account manager of the ad account to add you in Campaign Manager.
Any role on the ad account lets Hero Marketer read it. To make changes and launch campaigns, you need the role Campaign manager or Account manager. The role Creative manager cannot create campaigns, and Viewer can only read.
I see other ad accounts but not the one I want
The list shows only the active ad accounts that your LinkedIn member has a role on. If an ad account is not in the list:
- You have no role on it. Ask an account manager of that ad account to add you in Campaign Manager. Then click Reconnect LinkedIn Ads.
- It is closed. A closed ad account does not show. Check its status in Campaign Manager.
You return from LinkedIn without a connection
Match the message that you see:
- "LinkedIn Ads wasn't connected. Connect again and allow access when LinkedIn asks." You clicked Cancel on LinkedIn's screen, or you did not allow access. Connect again, and click Allow when LinkedIn asks. Hero Marketer needs all the permissions that LinkedIn shows. See Connect LinkedIn Ads.
- "This LinkedIn Ads connection request expired or is invalid. Connect LinkedIn Ads again." The connection took too long, or it started from an old tab. Click Connect LinkedIn Ads again.
- "Sign in to connect LinkedIn Ads." Your Hero Marketer session ended during the connection. Sign in to Hero Marketer, then connect again.
- "LinkedIn did not return a refresh token, so we can't keep this account connected. Contact support." Without a refresh token, the connection would stop after 60 days, so Hero Marketer does not save it. Email support@heromarketer.io with a screenshot.
"We couldn't load your LinkedIn ad accounts"
Hero Marketer shows this message on the Choose an account step when it cannot read your ad accounts after you sign in. It shows two buttons:
- Try again reads the ad accounts again. Use it first. The cause is often a short problem on LinkedIn's side.
- Reconnect LinkedIn Ads starts the connection again. Use it when Try again fails again.
"We couldn't finish connecting LinkedIn Ads" means that the sign-in worked, but Hero Marketer could not save the ad account. Use the same two buttons: Try again first, then Reconnect LinkedIn Ads.
Two related messages:
- "We couldn't retrieve the temporary LinkedIn connection. Connect LinkedIn Ads again." Hero Marketer keeps your LinkedIn sign-in for one hour while you choose an ad account. After one hour, connect again.
- "That LinkedIn ad account isn't available to this sign-in. Pick one from the list." The ad account that you chose is not one that your LinkedIn member has a role on. Pick an ad account from the list, or reconnect as the member who has a role on it.
The connection works, but features fail later
You connected the ad account, but later a dashboard, an alert, a change or a launch fails. Match the message:
- "Your LinkedIn Ads connection expired. Reconnect your account." LinkedIn does not accept the connection any more. LinkedIn ends each connection after one year. A connection also stops when the LinkedIn member removes Hero Marketer from the apps that can use their LinkedIn account. Open Settings > Ad accounts and click Reconnect on the account. Sign in as a member who has a role on the ad account. Do not disconnect the account: the account keeps its products, alerts, dashboards and chats when you reconnect.
- "The sign-in you used can't reach this ad account. Reconnect with one that manages it." You reconnected as a LinkedIn member who has no role on this ad account. Click Reconnect again and sign in as a member who has a role on it.
- "No LinkedIn Ads connection found for this account. Reconnect it." The ad account has no LinkedIn sign-in that you can use. For example, the teammate who connected it left the business. Open Settings > Ad accounts and click Reconnect on the account.
- "Permission denied. Check your role on this LinkedIn ad account." LinkedIn refused to show part of the ad account to your LinkedIn member. Someone removed your role, or changed it. Ask an account manager to check your role in Campaign Manager.
- "LinkedIn didn't allow this change. Reconnect LinkedIn Ads so Hero Marketer can make changes, and check that your role on this ad account can edit campaigns." The connection is older than the change permissions, or your role cannot edit campaigns. Reconnect the account. If the message shows again, ask for the role Campaign manager or Account manager.
- "LinkedIn didn't answer that request. Try again in a moment." LinkedIn was slow or not available. Wait a few minutes, then try again.
A new ad account
A new LinkedIn ad account connects like any other. Before its first campaign can run, check these items in Campaign Manager:
- A linked LinkedIn Page. Each ad posts as the Page that the ad account is linked to. Without a Page, the campaign wizard shows This ad account isn't linked to a LinkedIn Page. See Fix a message in the LinkedIn campaign wizard.
- A payment method. Without one, LinkedIn puts the ad account on hold, and no campaign runs. See My campaign is not live yet.
- Your role on the Page. To post the ads, your LinkedIn member needs the role Super admin, Content admin or Sponsored Content poster on the Page.
- Hero Marketer's list at LinkedIn. While LinkedIn reviews Hero Marketer, Hero Marketer can create campaigns only in the ad accounts on its list at LinkedIn. Contact support to add a new ad account. Reading the account and its reports works without this.
