Fix a message in the LinkedIn campaign wizard

Find the message that you see. Each section tells you what the message means and what to do. Most fixes are in Campaign Manager, and you make them once. For the full setup, see Set up your LinkedIn account for campaigns.

"Your LinkedIn Ads connection expired"

The full message is Your LinkedIn Ads connection expired. Reconnect your account.

LinkedIn does not accept Hero Marketer's access to this ad account any more, so the wizard cannot read your conversions or check your audience. The audience lines keep the audience that Hero Marketer saved for your product. Click Reconnect LinkedIn Ads, and on Settings > Ad accounts click Reconnect on the account. Sign in with the LinkedIn account that has access to the ad account. Then open Create campaign again.

"This ad account isn't linked to a LinkedIn Page"

The full message is This ad account isn't linked to a LinkedIn Page, so it has no Page to post ads as. Link one in Campaign Manager.

Each ad posts as the LinkedIn Page that the ad account is linked to. A new ad account often has no Page. An account manager of the ad account links one: in Campaign Manager, click Account settings, then Edit account, and type the Page's name or URL. LinkedIn does not let you change the Page after you save it. To advertise for a different Page, create a new ad account. Nothing was created.

"Permission denied. Check your role on this LinkedIn ad account"

LinkedIn refused to show part of the ad account to the LinkedIn member that you connected with. Someone removed your role, or changed it. To launch a campaign, the member needs two roles:

  • Campaign manager or Account manager on the ad account. Creative manager and Viewer cannot create campaigns.
  • Super admin, Content admin or Sponsored Content poster on the LinkedIn Page, so that Hero Marketer can post the ads as the Page.

Ask an account manager of the ad account to check your roles in Campaign Manager. For connection problems, see I cannot connect LinkedIn Ads.

"LinkedIn counts leads with a conversion"

The full message is LinkedIn counts leads with a conversion, such as a sign-up or a demo request, and this ad account has none. Create one in Campaign Manager, or send one from your CRM.

A Leads campaign needs a conversion to count. In Campaign Manager, open Data > Conversion tracking and create a conversion for the result, for example a demo request. Or set up your CRM, such as HubSpot, to send conversions to LinkedIn. Any type except Purchase and Subscribe counts leads.

"LinkedIn counts sales with a conversion"

The full message is LinkedIn counts sales with a conversion, such as a purchase, and this ad account has none. Create one in Campaign Manager, send one from your CRM, or pick Leads.

A Sales campaign needs a conversion of the type Purchase or Subscribe. Create one in Campaign Manager under Data > Conversion tracking, send one from your CRM, or set Campaign type to Leads in question 3.

"Your LinkedIn Insight Tag hasn't fired on" your site "this week"

The message is Your LinkedIn Insight Tag hasn't fired on your site this week, so it can't count conversions there.

This message shows only when your campaign counts a conversion from the Insight Tag. The tag sent nothing from the site of your landing page in the last 7 days. Install the tag on every page of that site, pick a conversion that a tool sends by API, or check it in Campaign Manager under Data > Insight Tag. LinkedIn lists a site 5 to 10 minutes after the first visit with the tag.

"Retargeting on LinkedIn needs a website audience"

The full message is Retargeting on LinkedIn needs a website audience. In Campaign Manager, make one from your Insight Tag, then come back.

In Campaign Manager, open Plan > Audiences and create an audience of the type Website. Hero Marketer cannot make the audience for you. Until the audience is ready, set Audience type to New people in question 2.

"LinkedIn is still building your website audience"

The full message is LinkedIn is still building your website audience, or it has fewer than 300 people. Show your ads to new people for now.

LinkedIn takes up to 48 hours to build a website audience, and it runs no campaign for fewer than 300 people. In question 2, set Audience type to New people for now, or wait until the audience grows.

"Fewer than 300 members"

The full message is Fewer than 300 members. LinkedIn needs more to run, so widen the audience.

LinkedIn runs no campaign for an audience of fewer than 300 members. Hero Marketer leaves out each job function, level and company size that you do not pick, so a narrow audience gets small. Select more job functions, levels or company sizes.

"LinkedIn has no location called" a country

The full message is LinkedIn has no location called country. Pick another country.

Hero Marketer finds your country in LinkedIn's list of locations by its English name. If LinkedIn uses a different name for the country, the search finds nothing. Pick another country, or email support@heromarketer.io with the country's name so that we can add it.

"Set the most you pay for a click"

A LinkedIn campaign needs the most that you pay for a click. Open the Budget panel on the Check your ad step and type an amount in Most per click. LinkedIn suggests a range under the field.

"LinkedIn needs a daily budget of at least" an amount

LinkedIn sets a minimum daily budget for each ad account: 10 US dollars, or the same amount in your account's currency. Type a higher monthly budget.

"LinkedIn takes a bid of up to" an amount "a click"

Your most per click is over LinkedIn's limit for the audience. Type a lower amount.

"While LinkedIn reviews Hero Marketer"

The full message is While LinkedIn reviews Hero Marketer, it lets us make campaigns only in the ad accounts on our list, and this one isn't on it yet. Contact support to add it.

LinkedIn lets an app in review make changes only in the ad accounts on the app's list. Contact support to add your ad account. Nothing was created.

"LinkedIn didn't make the change" at launch

The message is LinkedIn didn't make the change: followed by LinkedIn's own reason. Hero Marketer deletes the campaign that it started to make, so nothing spends. Fix what LinkedIn names, then launch again.

"LinkedIn didn't finish processing an image"

The full message is LinkedIn didn't finish processing an image. Try again in a minute.

LinkedIn processes each image after Hero Marketer uploads it, before an ad can use it. When the processing takes too long, Hero Marketer stops before it creates the campaign, so nothing spends. Wait a minute, then click Launch again.

"LinkedIn didn't answer that request"

The full message is LinkedIn didn't answer that request. Try again in a moment.

LinkedIn was slow or not available. Wait a few minutes, then try again. If this message shows at launch, Hero Marketer removes what it made, so nothing spends.

"This is a demo account, so it can't publish campaigns"

The demo ad account shows how the wizard works, but it cannot launch. Connect a real LinkedIn ad account to launch a campaign.
